Civmec's $850M contract with Fortescue Metals Group to create 300 jobs in WA
Fortescue Metals Group has awarded Civmec a contract for the delivery of the primary crushing and ore processing facility at its Eliwana iron ore project in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
Civmec will be responsible for the full vertical delivery of Eliwana’s iron ore loading, primary, secondary and tertiary crushing, ore screening and associated conveyor systems, up to no load commissioning.
The significant package of work also includes shop detailing, fabrication, delivery and site installation of the civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical works.
This package will employ around 300 local people at both Civmec’s heavy engineering facilities, where the fabrication will be undertaken, and in the Pilbara for onsite works.
Civmec will commence work in the coming months, with completion of the contract expected in late 2020.
“We have worked extensively with Fortescue for some time to secure this award, with the package of work utilising many of our core disciplines in a single, vertical solution offering,” Civmec chief executive Patrick Tallon said.
“Fortescue’s strong commitment to supporting West Australian industry, by engaging our fabrication capability as part of the turnkey solution, is commendable. This is a great start to the 2020 financial year and we look forward to the year ahead.”
Fortescue last month announced plans to hand out a further $500 million in contracts for Eliwana in 2019.
The company broke first ground at the site in July and has awarded over 250 contracts worth $330 million to Australian businesses, 80 per cent of which have been Western Australian based.
Civmec has also recently secured contracts within its maintenance division and for subsea fabrication work in the oil and gas sector.
The new work has taken the Civmec’s order book to around $850 million.
