Recruitment drive expected - Sodexo takes Rio FIFO camp contracts from Spotless
French catering giant Sodexo has won a lucrative contract to manage all of Rio Tinto's camp sites in the Pilbara according to an industry source, kicking off the likelihood of a recruitment drive.
Sodexo was reportedly shortlisted for the deal along with Spotless Facilities Services and ISS Facility Services last year.
The industry source recently said Sodexo, which provides cleaning, food and facilities management services in the remote iron ore region, was making expressions of interests for jobs as they won the contract to take over all of Rio's Pilbara campsites over the next couple of months.
A Sodexo spokeswoman did not challenge this claim.
“There is an announcement about this project due this week,” she said.
“We have no comment at the moment.”
Rio Tinto was also contacted for comment, but were unavailable at the time of publication.
The deal puts further pressure on Australia-listed Spotless. In December broker Macquarie reportedly said Spotless lost its Rio contract renewal to a global bid from Sodexo.
A valuation for the deal is yet to be given, however it is understood Spotless' camp contracts were estimated to be worth up to $400 million per annum in total revenue, with the new deal expected to cover a multi-year period.
